Who is it for?
Mindfulness training is useful for people of all ages and levels of well-being. Some people are sent by their doctors or psychologists because of physical and/or emotional stress, others enrol because, although they are feeling mostly well, they’re looking for more peace and ease in life.

What does the MBSR course involve?
One 2.5 hour class, once per week for eight weeks, plus one full Day of Mindfulness after week 5.

These classes include:
– guided meditations
– mindful movement
– exploration of patterns of thinking, feeling and action
– brief lectures and discussions
– scientific rationale for the practice

You are also required to commit to home practice:
The MBSR curriculum requires participants to commit to 30-45 minutes daily home practice, using audio recordings and course workbook, 6 days per week for the course duration. Research has shown that this is a key component to getting the most out of this course.

How does the course work?
Over the eight-week program, you learn a number of key skills that allow you to tune into and become aware of your experience in the moment.

By spending some time each day formally and informally practising mindfulness meditation, you develop the skill of bringing a moment-to-moment awareness to your experience. As you begin to apply this awareness, you find that you can respond – rather than react in habitual ways – to everyday life situations. This becomes increasingly easy to do when you practice the formal meditation each day.

The MBSR course provides an opportunity for you to discover that it is possible to accept the full range of experience that life inevitably brings – pleasurable, happy experience, as well as painful experience in its various forms – worry, anxiety, tension, impatience, anger, grief, sadness and even despair. You learn to examine and reflect on the patterns of your own mind, feelings and actions, and to gently interrupt patterns of self-criticism and unhelpful actions.

The course format is supportive and encouraging. As participants share their learning and discoveries, many discover that their ups and downs are a common and normal human experience; there is much relief in learning that “it’s not just me.”

The MBSR course is a pathway to greater skill, wisdom, and ability to meet what life brings.
